ConnectWith: SYEMC members John and Jessican Jonczak and friends.

A community committed to those who served

Local businesses pay it forward to make a dream wedding a reality.

Overwhelmed is the word John and Jessica Jonczak use to describe the outpouring of support they’ve received. The Barn at Heritage Farm owners had a dream of giving back to their community while building the barn two short years ago. This past September, that dream became an emotional reality when a U.S. Marine veteran and his fiancé took their vows in front of family and friends at the barn.

While building the barn, the Jonczaks were already discussing ways they could give something back to their community. Discounts to nonprofit organizations, schools and first responders were great and definitely worthwhile, but they sought a bigger event with a memorable impact.

With our military men and women near and dear to their hearts, the couple decided to offer the barn to one couple each year for their dream wedding, free of charge and based on availability.

An application was created and posted on The Barn’s website. The Jonczaks were overwhelmed by the 17 applications received in their first year. They were even more surprised by the competition among local vendors to donate their services for the ceremony and reception.

Applications are voted on by the vendors who offered their services. This year’s winning application was received on the last possible day. The mother of a fallen soldier wrote a heartfelt story about a young man who served overseas with her son.

Josh, who suffered life-changing injuries while serving his country, met Kendra after returning home. Believing they would not be able to have children, Josh was willing to let her go. That was until they learned of Kendra’s pregnancy. The couple now have two children.

Their big day was made possible by the Jonczaks’ wedding and event barn and several local business owners who donated everything from flowers to wedding rings. (See below for a complete list of this year’s vendors.)

“It was beautiful,” said Jessica about the wedding. “Everything was perfect in every way.

“After witnessing the entire event, John and I both agree that the whole thing started out because we wanted to be a blessing to others, but we were the ones who received the blessing.”

Jessica and John both were brought to tears witnessing the gratitude shown by Josh and Kendra and their loved ones. “This beautiful wedding day took place all because we, along with so many other vendors who joined the cause, decided to take time and thank a deserving military couple,” said Jessica.

The Jonczaks have hosted more than 250 events at The Barn in just two years. This may have topped the list as their favorite to date. The couple attend every wedding, party and event to ensure the best possible experience.

They really had no idea what to expect when beginning their journey two years ago. The Barn has proven to be more work than anticipated, but more fun as well. Jessica and John value the impact they’ve had on people’s lives and relationships they have been fortunate to build in the process.

“We can’t wait to see how all of us can continue to pay it forward to these military couples by helping make dreams come true,” she said, “one free wedding at a time.”
