On November 20, Surry-Yadkin Electric Membership Corporation (SYEMC) presented $10,200 to Mountain Valley representatives. These were the profits from a Bingo fundraiser held in late September. On September 21, more than 250 people filled the Surry County Service Center in Dobson to participate in the Bingo fundraiser hosted by SYEMC’s Community Projects Committee.
The day of the Bingo, members of SYEMC’s Community Projects Committee, a committee of employees led by committee chair Taylor Zimmerman, member services representative II, were joined by volunteers with Mountain Valley to put on the Bingo, which included a cake auction and silent auction.
“This was the second Bingo we’ve had in recent years, and we were amazed by how many people came out to support the fundraiser. I want to thank the businesses and individuals who sponsored our Bingo by providing game prizes, door prizes, sponsorship funds, auction items and concessions supplies, and to the individuals who came and played Bingo and bid on items,” said Zimmerman.
“One of Surry-Yadkin Electric’s Cooperative Principles is Concern for Community,” he said. “It is no secret that our staff and our community partners are dedicated to serving and assisting those in need in our service area.”
“I was thrilled again this year with the support we got from area businesses and individuals who made donations, as well as the community members who came out to play Bingo,” said Wendy Wood, chair of the Bingo event and manager of communications and community relations for SYEMC. “We also appreciated the assistance we got from Mountain Valley in providing additional volunteers for the night of the event.”
“Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care extends our heartfelt gratitude to Surry-Yadkin Electric Membership Corporation for selecting us as their beneficiary this year. It was truly inspiring to collaborate with such dedicated and compassionate employees. At Mountain Valley, we are committed to providing care for everyone in need — regardless of age, race, religion, diagnosis, or financial circumstances. No one is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. This unwavering principle lies at the heart of our mission to serve our patients and community with compassion and dignity. Our ability to uphold this commitment is made possible through the generous support of donors and partners like SYEMC. We deeply appreciate your partnership in making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve,” said Leigh Ann Groves, senior vice president of Philanthropy for Mountain Valley.
In addition to the Bingo, earlier in the year SYEMC was able to provide $19,500 checks to Hometown Habitat for Humanity and YVEDDI’s Meals on Wheels from the annual charity golf tournament hosted by the Community Projects Committee. Also, the committee will be providing meals and gifts for families in our community who are in need or are hosting foster children.
Surry-Yadkin EMC, a member-owned not-for-profit electric cooperative, hosts food drives, sponsors families at Christmas, sponsors youth programs like NC Youth Tour, Bright Ideas Education Grants and Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships, and more as part of the Brighter Future initiative to improve and strengthen the daily lives of our member-owners and the communities it serves.
