Sheldon Howlett, safety coordinator, has been a part of a co-op family since 1998. Upon completion of high school, Howlett started working for Pee Dee Electric where he began his career as a right-of-way worker. Shortly after joining the staff of Pee Dee Electric, he landed a position in their apprenticeship lineman program, which allowed him the opportunity to attended Nash Community College for lineman training.
Three years following employment with Pee Dee Electric, Howlett found his way back to Surry County, the community he had grown up in prior to moving at the age of 17. Since being employed at SYEMC in 2007, he has held a number of positions. His titles have ranged from journeyman lineman, serviceman technician, crew leader, and most recently, safety coordinator.
“Ensuring the safety of our crew members and our staff is something that motivates me daily. Knowing that I can help safely return our guys to their families every night and to work every day is the most important aspect of my job,” said Howlett.
Howlett was born and raised in Surry County, but moved to Rockingham with his family at 17. He graduated from Peace Valley Christian School before attending Nash Community College. As previously mentioned, Howlett accepted a position at SYEMC, bringing him back to the area years ago.
He and his wife, Christy, have a daughter, Elleigh, and three cats. In the little spare time he has, he enjoys playing golf, fishing, and most importantly, spending time with his wife and daughter.
