Wendy Wood, manager of communications & community relations, has lived in Surry County since 2000, following her college graduation. She has served in her role since joining Surry-Yadkin EMC in 2019, following an 18-year career as a reporter and editor in the local newspaper industry.
Wendy grew up in Winston-Salem and the Summerfield/Oak Ridge area of Guilford County, graduating from Northwest Guilford High School. She went on to graduate from Brevard College in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English before joining her parents in Mount Airy where they moved in 1999. She now lives in the Longhill community of Pilot Mountain with her husband, Johnnie III, and son, Kourt.
“I love my job because I get to do all of my favorite things, writing, editing, graphic design, working with community organizations on sponsorships and projects, while working for the betterment and service of our members and the communities the cooperative serves,” said Wood.
Through her work and in her time away from work, Wendy is a member of the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors, serving as chairwoman for 2024, as well as the events and public policy committees; an ambassador with the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce; chair-elect of the Yadkin Valley United Fund Board of Directors; a member of the Safe Kids Surry County coalition; former cubmaster for Pilot Mountain BSA Cub Pack 545; and is troop committee chair for Pilot Mountain BSA Troop 545. She also serves on the Elkin City Schools Business Advisory Alliance and is a vice president and Honors and Awards Committee chair on the Brevard College Alumni Board.
Wendy enjoys outdoor activities like camping, kayaking and hiking, as well as relaxing in her hammock, and she enjoys spending time with her family.
